On Saturday, October 7th, 2023, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I received a delegation of Syriac teachers visiting from Germany, headed by His Eminence Mor Clemis Daniel Kourieh, Archbishop of Beirut.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mor Clemis Daniel Kourieh expressed their solidarity with the Armenian people and then conveyed the purpose of their visit. A representative from the group also shared remarks, recalling a previous encounter with His Holiness during a meeting between the Armenian and Syriac churches. They also acknowledged His Holiness’s significant role in the field of ecumenical relations.
Welcoming the visit, His Holiness Aram I emphasized the century-old relations and collaboration between the two churches. He underscored the significance of church cooperation in today’s world, highlighting the historical background of these relations and stating that this should serve as a reminder to give new impetus to the relations.
Following the visit, the guests honored the memory of the Armenian and Syriac martyrs who had suffered during the genocide committed by Turkey in 1915 by visiting the Armenian Genocide memorial and offering prayers in remembrance.
