On Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, Joanna Wronecka, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, visited His Holiness Catholicos Aram I. Two main topics were discussed during the meeting: the blockade of Artsakh by Azerbaijan; and the Lebanese Presidential election.
The Holiness highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh resulting from the illegal blockade of the Lachin (Pertsor) Corridor. The Catholicos expressed gratitude for the UN’s statements of solidarity with Artsakh but emphasized that the indigenous people of Artsakh and Armenians everywhere expect the UN to take substantial measures to end the blockade. Wronecka assured Aram I that the concerns regarding Artsakh would be immediately conveyed to the Secretary-General of the UN.
In addition, His Holiness briefed the Special Coordinator on consultations held with Patriarch Rai concerning the Presidential election.
