The Washing of Feet Ceremony on Holy Thursday in Antelias

On March 28th, 2024, Holy Thursday observances commenced at St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral in Antelias, presided over by His Holiness Catholicos Aram I. The day began with the Canon of Repentance followed by the morning Eucharist, leading up to the Washing of the Feet Service in the afternoon, and concluding with the evening service of “Lamentations.ā€

The Washing of the Feet Service was conducted by His Holiness Aram I, who, following the example of Jesus Christ, washed the feet of 2 reverend fathers and 10 seminarians.

In his sermon, His Holiness reflected on the act of bowing to wash the feet of His students as a profound demonstration of God’s boundless love for humanity. Emphasizing love as the essence of Christianity, Aram I spoke of God’s love encompassing even suffering and sacrifice, stressing that God loved us so much that He Sent His Only Son for our salvation. His Holiness encouraged believers to embody Christ’s love in their lives and to convey its message through their actions. Concluding the ceremony, His Holiness recited the “Bahbanich” prayer.
