On Wednesday, February 21st, 2024, a phone conversation took place between His Holiness Catholicos Aram I and Dr. Luis Moreno-Ocampo, the first prosecutor of the New and Permanent International Criminal Court.

They emphasized that, in accordance with legal principles and relevant international laws, Azerbaijan’s genocidal policy against the people of Artsakh was a deliberate and planned genocide. The discussion extended to genocides and ethnic cleansing in recent events in the Caucasus and the Middle East, highlighting the concerning phenomenon of impunity for genocides, which fosters the occurrence of new genocides.

During the conversation, His Holiness commended Dr. Ocampo’s efforts, particularly his research on Azerbaijan’s genocidal policy against Artsakh. This research has gained significant recognition in international legal thinking and is grounded in the principles of human rights.
