THE WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES CALLS ON AZERBAIJAN FOR THE LIFTING OF THE BLOCKADE OF ARTSAKH

The World Council of Churches (WCC) calls on Azerbaijan to urgently and immediately lift the blockade on Artsakh. This call comes following a recent communication from His Holiness Catholicos Aram I to the WCC and the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), urging them to once again shed light on the Artsakh situation and denounce the blockade imposed by Azerbaijan.

The WCC urges the international community to intervene immediately to bring an end to the blockade, thereby saving the lives of Artsakh’s residents, and then proceed to efforts of finding diplomatic solutions for a just peace in the region.

In the message, the WCC states that lifting the blockade is essential to facilitate unhindered two-way movement of civilians, transportation, and goods through the corridor and to ensure unobstructed humanitarian access, thereby alleviating the suffering of the Armenian population of Artsakh.

It is worth noting that the World Council of Churches has previously issued similar appeals and statements on multiple occasions, notably during the 11th General Assembly held in Karlsruhe.
