THE SECOND EDITION OF “ST. NERSES THE GRACIOUS AND CHURCH UNITY” BY HIS HOLINESS CATHOLICOS ARAM I IS RELEASED

We are glad to announce the publication of the second edition of “St. Nerses the Gracious and Church Unity,” authored by His Holiness Catholicos Aram I, on the occasion of the 850th commemoration of the saint.

The first part of the book provides a historical analysis of the 12th-century Cilicia Kingdom in both political and ecclesial contexts; the ecumenical relations of the Armenian Church, having St. Nerses the Gracious as a major player, with the Greek Church and the Byzantine Emperor; and his theological, confessional and ecumenical positions. The second part consists of letters and documents related to the above-mentioned ecumenical relations, translated by the author, followed by an epilogue.

It is noteworthy that this academic research was originally prepared in 1974 as part of Aram I’s thesis project for his S.T.M. degree, jointly from the American University of Beirut and the Near East School of Theology, and was first published in 2010.
