THE ARMENIAN CHURCH, HOLY SEE OF CILICIA PARTICIPATES IN THE INTERNATIONAL ARMENOLOGICAL CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO THE 850TH COMMEMORATION OF NERSES THE GRACIOUS IN YEREVAN

Following the encyclical of His Holiness Catholicos Aram I marking the 850th commemoration of Nerses the Gracious (Shnorhali) and the symposium held in Antelias on the same occasion, HE Arch. Shahan Sarkissian participated in an international conference held at the Mesrob Mashdots Madenataran – Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, in Yerevan, and presented the legacy of Nerses the Gracious through his interpretation of religious texts.

 

During the opening ceremony, Arch. Shahan, who is the director of the Cilicia Library as well as the Ancient Manuscripts Department of the Catholicosate, read Aram I’s letter of blessing, where the Pontiff expresses his commendation to the Madenataran’s initiative and underlines the legacy of St. Nerses the Gracious in Armenian Church’s theological thinking, positions in the declaration of faith, formation of rites and enrichment of the Armenian literature.

 

Notably, Arch. Shahan Sarkissian dedicated a copy of Pontiff’s Encyclical on Nerses Shnorhali to the Madenataran, as well as His Holiness’ research publications on Nerses the Gracious including “Saint Nerses the Gracious and Church Unityto the participants.
