During his pontifical and solidarity visit to Aleppo, His Holiness met with the Armenian community and listened to their concerns and needs, and promised his unwavering paternal support and blessings. 

In his speech, His Holiness congratulated the Prelate of Aleppo H.G. Bishop Magar Ashkarian for his election and expressed his commendation for his dedication and service, especially in the aftermath of the earthquake. He also recognized the many years of dedicated service of the Former Prelate H.E. Arch. Shahan Sarkissian—who had held office during the difficult years of war in Syrian, and that of the members of the Diocesan Councils, and the community organizations and bodies. He reaffirmed the support of the Holy See of Cilicia and encouraged them to continue their mutual work in the efforts of restoring the lives of those who had suffered.
