On Wednesday, January 18th, 2023, a delegation representing the council of Sunni and Shiite religious leaders met with His Holiness Catholicos Aram I.
The delegation expressed solidarity with the Artsakh Armenians and stressed the imperative of ending the Lachin Corridor blockade, on humanitarian grounds. The delegation also expressed their commendation to His Holiness for his dedication to Christian-Muslim cooperation efforts.
Speaking about the Artsakh, His Holiness stressed that it is not a religious issue but the right of self-determination of the indigenous people. In this regard, he stressed that both Islam and Christianity have always sided with justice and human rights. Finally, the Catholicos emphasized the importance of expanding the scope of the Christian-Muslim dialogue, as well as the importance of addressing contemporary issues.
