His Holiness Catholicos Aram I appointed H.G. Bishop Magar Ashkarian as Pontifical Legate to the Armenian Prelacy in Syria.
On Tuesday, October 25th, 2022, the Bishop departed for Aleppo, accompanied by V. Rev. Fr. Zaven Najarian and V. Rev. Fr. Sarkis Aprahamian.
Prior to assuming the position, Bishop Magar was the director of the Christian Education Department of the Catholicosate. He has also held various monastic and diocesan positions, namely supervisor and teacher at the Armenian Theological Seminary, grand sacristan at St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral, patriarchal vicar for the Armenian Prelacy in Tehran and pastor in the Armenia Prelacy in Greece.
