GOOD FRIDAY COMMEMORATION AT THE CATHOLICOSATE OF CILICIA

“WE ARE CALLED TO BURY OUR SINS WITH CHRIST SO THAT WITH HIS RESURRECTION WE WILL BECOME A NEW PERSON”

HIS HOLINESS CATHOLICOS ARAM I

Although the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the lives of everyone across the globe, during the Holy Week, the faithful attended Our Lord Jesus Christ’s final stage of his earthly life.

The Burial Service was presided by His Holiness Aram I. The service was sung by the Seminary’s “Armash” Choir. At the end of the service, His Holiness Aram I delivered the homily of the day taking into reflection the meaning of Christ’s burial and stated: “The Son of God came to Earth to save mankind. It’s with that same reason he preached, performed miracles, was persecuted, crucified and then ended up being resurrected. Christ was sinless, but was buried to bury our sins, and by burying our sins, to renew our life.”

Catholicos Aram I continued: “Christ’s burial teaches us to bury our sins and to cleanse and renew our lives with the values and truths of His Kingdom.”

In conclusion, the Pontiff beseeched the heavenly Father by praying: “Oh Lord, we, the first Christian Nation, a privilege given by Your grace, we did not become Solomon, instead we became Peter, living in the way of Your faith and witness to Your Gospel. We did not become Juda, the betrayer, instead we became John the Apostle, by loving and being loyal to You. Today, we bow to in front of Your coffin and renew our vow of love and loyalty.”

At the Burial Procession, His Holiness Aram I took the Relic of the Holy Cross of Jesus Christ and blessed the faithful. Following which, the faithful were able to receive a flower from the coffin, renewing their lives cleansing all tribulations, sins, and sickness.
