Let us lay our sins to have life

29 March 2016

25 March 2016. His Holiness Aram I and the clergy commemorated the death of Christ on the Cross and the placement of the body in the tomb. The Good Friday Service was held around a coffin placed in front of the altar. The faithful visited the tomb, decorated it with flowers, and offered their prayers.

As the seminarians chanted “Sourp Asdvadz” (Trisagion), His Holiness Aram I kneeled in front of the coffin to pray, then walked around the coffin and incensed it. In his message, Catholicos Aram I said, “According to the Apostle, Christ shed his blood, died on the Cross, and lay in the tomb to pay for our sins. Through Christ’s Resurrection we received the gift of eternal life and salvation.” The Catholicos invited the faithful to bury their sins with the help of Christ and start a renewed life.

At the end of the Good FridayService, Catholicos Aram I blessed the faithful with the relic of the Cross of Jesus; the faithful paid their respects to the symbolic tomb and took flowers home. During the rest of the day, Armenians and other Christians came to pray at Jesus’ tomb and take flowers home.
