The Holy See of Cilicia is closely monitoring the developments in Armenia, with the catholicoi of the Armenian Church maintaining constant communication.
In his message on the occasion of the First Independence of the Republic of Armenia, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I emphasized the utmost importance of preserving Armenia’s independence, territorial integrity, and security, as the highest value for our nation. He called upon the nation’s children to confront all challenges with unwavering unity and solidarity, essential for internal strength.
Currently, the people of our Motherland are deeply concerned about threats to Armenia’s independence and existence, expressing their collective protest and demands. As the Holy See of Etchmiadzin urged in its recent statement, our Holy See also instructs participants in public demonstrations to express their dissent “exclusively with caution within the bounds of the law and not to be manipulated by possible provocations.” Furthermore, we condemn the excessive use of force by the police and appeal to them to “respect the fundamental rights, freedoms, honor, and dignity of our compatriots, and act strictly according to the principles of humanity and legality.”
May God preserve and protect our Motherland and nation, shielding them from all forms of evil.
