BOOK LAUNCHING OF THE MUSICAL COLLECTION OF PARSEGH GANACHTIAN IN YEREVAN

The presentation of the musical collection (two volumes) of the Armenian composer and conductor Parsegh Ganatchian (1885-1967) was held in Yeravan, Armenia, on Friday evening, October 1st, 2021. The volumes were initially launched at the Catholicosate of Cilicia in in 2019, and having attracted the attention of the musical society in Armenia, a special event was deemed crucial to its unveiling in Yerevan.

 

The main presentation was offered by the musicologist Datevig Shakhgoulian, Head of the Research Department of the Komitas Museum-Institute. She gave an analysis of Ganatchian’s life and career. The closing remarks were made by Archbishop Shahan Sarkissian, Head of Cilicia Library. Archbishop Shahan expressed his gratitude to His Holiness Aram I for his blessings in the completion of this project, as well as to the editors musicologists Bedros Alahaidoyan and Dr. Dzovig Meguerian Markarian, and also to the sponsors, the administration of the Institute and its director Nikolay Kosdantian.

 

The event was an opportunity to celebrate Ganatchian’s art and a selection of his songs were performed.
