THREE SEMINARIANS WERE ORDAINED INTO THE DEACONHOOD

The Armenian Church grants ordinations to those who dedicate their lives to the service of the church and its people. Deaconhood is the first of the three basic orders granted by laying on of hands performed with a special ceremony during the Divine Liturgy.

On Sunday, June 13th, 2021, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I presided over the ordination ceremony of three Seminarians – Nshan Andrian, Hrag-Anto Krdanian and Hagop Joulfayan – performed by His Eminence Archbishop Shahan Sarkissian.

After the sponsoring priest V. Rev. Fr. Zaven Najarian led the candidates to the altar on their knees, they recited hymns and prayers that symbolize their abstention from indulgences. During the ordination, the officiant administered onto them the right to wear a stole on the left shoulder, read the Gospel and administer the censer during the Divine Liturgy.

Following the ceremony, the celebrant priest addressed the newly ordained to rejoice as they continue their service and exhorted them to remain faithful to the traditions of the Armenian Church, and follow the example of Saint Stephen the Protodeacon.

At the end of the liturgy, the newly ordained deacons received the blessing of the Catholicos.
