A SERIES OF PRESENTATIONS AT THE SEMINARY ON THE LATE CATHOLICOI OF THE CATHOLICOSTAE OF CILCIA

On Friday evening, February 5th, 2021, the junior and senior classes of the Armenian Theological Seminary presented talks about the late catholicoi of the Catholicosate of Cilicia, who have served the Holy See after the latter’s establishment in Antelias.

The event preceded the annual requiem service held at the Mausoleum of the Catholicosate on the first Sunday of the month of February.

The presenters shed light on the life and service of the following late catholicoi: Sahag II Khabayan, Papken I Gulesserian (Catholicos Coadjutor to Sahag II), Bedros I Saradjian, Karekin I Hovsepiants, Zareh I Payaslian, Khoren I Paroyan and Karekin II Sarkissian. The students underlined that the legacies of each catholicos remain alive in the intellectual and religious formation of the clergy in the Seminary and in the mission of the Catholicosate.

Concluding the event, the Dean of the Seminary V. Rev. Fr. Barouyr Shernezian commended the presenters, and stated that these catholicoi worked believing that the generations they were raising will always keep the spirit of the Armenian Church alive. Finally, he presented the students with prayer books “Jamakirk” and “Avak Shapat.”
