PRIESTHOOD ORDINATION AT SAINTS FORTY MARTYRS CATHEDRAL IN ALEPPO

On Sunday, October 6th, 2019, under the auspices of His Holiness Aram I, an ordination and consecration ceremony was performed by Bishop Masis Zoboyan, Prelate of Peria (Syria), with V. Rev. Fr. Zaven Najarian as sponsor priest, during the Divine Liturgy at Sts. Forty Martyrs Cathedral in Aleppo, Syria. Deacon George Brikhanian was ordained and renamed as Manoug.

The ordination ceremony began on Saturday evening with the ritual of examination of faith. Mr. and Mrs. Sarkis Giragossian were the sponsors of the ceremony and in attendance were representatives of Diocesan National Representatives Assembly, besides the faithful.

The newly ordained priest will spend his forty days seclusion for prayers at the Cathedral in Aleppo and based on the Prelacy’s request and His Holiness’ permission, he will then serve in the Armenian Prelacy as Prelate’s assistant, and representative of the Armenian Theological Seminary and teacher in Karen Jeppe Armenian College, in Aleppo.

According to the Catholicosate’s tradition, ordination and consecration ceremonies are held at the mother Cathedral of the Catholicosate in Antelias, but given certain circumstances, His Holiness Aram I gave his blessings and high permission to proceed with the ceremony at Sts. Forty Martyrs Cathedral in Aleppo. Note that Fr. Manoug’s classmates had received their priesthood ordination and consecration in June, in Antelias.
