THE RELIGIOUS COUNCIL OF THE NATIONAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY CONVENES IN ANTELIAS

On Tuesday, May 7th, 2019, His Holiness Aram I presided over the meeting of the Religious Council of the National General Assembly. Cilician Brothers serving in Antelias and in the Prelacies of the Catholicosate around the world participated in the meeting.

 

His Holiness Aram I delivered the opening remarks. He stressed the imperative of working toward a renewed church which will render the mission and service of the Church to be more organized and focused.

 

The co-chairs of the meeting were Archbishop Oshagan Choloyan and Archbishop Nareg Alemezian.

 

During the meeting, the following topics were discussed: Christian education, youth involvement in church life, collaboration with the Armenian Catholic and Evangelical Churches, ecumenical and interfaith relations, Armenian Theological Seminary, parish priest formation, Summer Youth Academy, Hask periodical, socioethical issues, Bible translation and publication, communication and publishing endeavors, re-arrangement of the Prayers for the Republic and for the Pontiff, and ceremonial matters, for which reports were given and appropriate decisions were adopted.

 

In his closing remarks, His Holiness Aram I commended the proceedings of the meeting and stressed the importance of taking those to the faithful through the Prelacies. He said that the Church should work based on the teachings of the Bible and the Church Fathers, at the same time taking into consideration the recent challenges of the century so that the teachings comply with the expectations and concerns of the people today.

 

Note that, the Lay Council of the National General Assembly will convene tomorrow. His Holiness will preside over the meeting.
