Armenian Church Fathers have described the Great Lent as the “Powerful Gate,” constructed through self-introspection and abstinence, in anticipation of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. For the Fathers, the Great Lent is an invitation to engage in spiritual quest. According to Gregory of Datev, “the spirit is cleansed by tears serving as hot water and love as the soap; it is then rinsed of all sins by prayers and fasting.”
During the forty days of fasting and prayer services, the faithful will be nourished spiritually. His Holiness Aram I will preside over the Lenten ‘Arevakal’ morning services every Wednesday and Friday at 7 o’clock and ‘Hessgoum’ vigils at 5 o’clock in the evening.
Every Wednesday after the ‘Arevakal’ service, the faithful are invited to attend meditation sessions led by the clergy.
