THE LAY COUNCIL OF THE NATIONAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY CONVENED IN ANTELIAS

On Friday, October 19th, 2018, His Holiness Aram I presided over the meeting of the Lay Council of the National General Assembly. Topics related to property and construction, finance and administration, reorganization of the prelacies, relations and cooperation with Armenia and Artsakh, social and humanitarian institutions administered by the Catholicosate, the Armenian district in Fanar and questions and concerns from prelacies were discussed during the meeting.

 

According to the Catholicosate of Cilicia Constitution, a mixed assembly composed of the Lay and the Religious Councils convened later in the afternoon. Here, the discussions concentrated on relations between Antelias and Etchmiadzin, cooperation between the Catholicosate, Armenia and Artsakh, the lawsuit for the return of the Catholicosate’s historical seat in Sis, “Nor Giligia” (New Cilicia) village in Artsakh and recovery of the Syrian Armenian community.

 

Appropriate reports were provided and decisions were taken in each session.

 

Concluding the sessions at the end of the day, His Holiness Aram I underlined the importance of people’s inclusion in the church life, especially on the level of the prelacies, combing our efforts, and commended the transparency of the Catholicosate of Cilicia.
