On Tuesday, August 28th, 2018, during a meeting of the President of Switzerland Mr. Alain Berset with the Christian and Muslim spiritual leaders of Lebanon, His Holiness Aram I stressed the pivotal importance of broadening the collaboration between Switzerland and Lebanon. He welcomed the humanitarian assistance provided to the Palestinian and Syrian refugees in Lebanon, but he said that “humanitarian action and political decision need to be integrated, the refugees have the right to return to their homeland”. Referring to the problems and concerns facing Lebanon Aram I said that “to a large degree our problems are the problems of the others. Being a small country, Lebanon is exposed to the regional problems and conflicts. Unfortunately, the Lebanese are used to cohabitate with problems. They should transform the problems into challenges. For Lebanon the strengthening of internal unity, dissociation from the regional problems are basic challenges which need to be taken very seriously”, said Catholicos Aram I.
