His Holiness Aram I presides over an ecumenical gathering and prayers in Kuwait

As part of his visit to Kuwait, His Holiness Aram I presided over an ecumenical meeting and prayers organized by Bishop Ghattas Hazim, Metropolitan of Kuwait and Dependencies, Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch.

 

During the ecumenical meeting, the Catholicos was welcomed by the representatives of all Christian communities in Kuwait and the Most Rev. Francisco Montecillo Padilla, Apostolic Nuncio to Kuwait and Apostolic Delegate to the Arabian Peninsula. During the gathering, His Holiness spoke of the importance of the ecumenical movement, current challenges, and, most importantly, the role of the ecumenical movement in promoting Christian-Muslim cooperation and coexistence.

 

A large number of the faithful from all Churches gathered at St Marc Church for ecumenical prayers. During the service, Most Rev. Francisco Montecillo Padilla welcomed His Holiness to Kuwait and expressed his joy at the unity demonstrated at the Church. Metropolitan Ghattas Hazim also greeted the Catholicos, praising his ecumenical efforts and his advocacy of Christian-Muslim dialogue. Bishop Ghattas offered a special gift to His Holiness Aram I for him to remember the occasion.

 

In his speech, Catholicos Aram I thanked the Christian leaders for the event and expressed his deep appreciation to Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, for his support. Addressing the Christian leaders, the Catholicos said, “Although historical circumstances divided us, the Church of Jesus is One and we are called to work for its message of peace, which is based on justice.”

 

The Armenian clergy accompanying His Holiness Aram I, Very Reverend Massis Choboyan, Prelate of Kuwait and Neighbouring Countries, Very Reverend Mesrob Sarkissian, Pontifical Vicar for the United Arab Emirates and the Region, and Reverend Bedros Manuellian, also took part in the ecumenical prayers.
