His Holiness Aram I Chairs the Final Meeting of the Middle East Council of Churches 11th Assembly Planning Committee

26 July 2016. On Tuesday morning, the members of the Assembly Planning Committee, the General Secretary, Rev Dr Michel Jalekh, and the Programme staff of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), met at St Mary’s Monastery in Bikfaya to finalize the agenda and review the list of participants. His Holiness Aram I, a President of the Council, chaired the meeting.

After giving the opening prayer and welcoming the committee and staff, Catholicos Aram I said that the 11th Assembly of the MECC, to be held 5-8 September in Jordan, is happening at a crucial historical moment for the continuing Christian presence in the Middle East. The challenges and eventual consequences of the violence in the region will determine the priorities for the member churches and the MECC, he concluded. The General Secretary then presented the list of participants and informed the committee that most of the spiritual Heads of Churches will attend the Assembly.

At the end of the meeting all the participants were the guests of His Holiness for lunch.
