15 July 2016. His Holiness Aram I wrote a letter of condolence to President François Hollande following the violent lorry attack in Nice during the French National Day celebration. Deploring the act of violence perpetrated on a packed crowd celebrating the 14^th of July, the Catholicos stated that violence is a global evil that transcends religion, nation and boundaries. It is, therefore, urgent to call upon all institutions and actors in all societies to join efforts to eradicate it.

His Holiness assured the President and the French people of his prayers for the deceased. He wished the injured a quick recovery and he transmitted the solidarity of the Armenian Church and the people with the President and the people of France.
