His Holiness Aram I receives Representatives of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)

18 January 2016. The delegation was headed by Bishop Oscar Cantu, Chair of the Committee on International Justice and Peace of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and included Mr. Stephen Colecchi, director of the Lebanese office of Catholic Relief Services.

The delegation is visiting different countries in the Middle East in order to learn a report to the government of the USA. His Holiness informed the delegation that in 2014 he and five Patriarchs met President Obama and on behalf of their Churches he explained the situation and expressed their concerns and preoccupations. He reiterated the importance of helping Christians to remain in their historical lands, and he expressed his hope that the United Nations will help. The Catholicos then reminded the delegation that violent extremism is a threat to the whole world and, therefore, the world community should seriously seek a solution. His Holiness spoke of the presidential election in Lebanon and emphasized the meaning and message of a Lebanon having a Christian President.
