HIS HOLINESS ARAM I CONTINUES HIS ANNUAL MEETINGS WITH THE RESIDENTS OF ARMENIAN SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS IN LEBANON

His Holiness Aram I visits the Home for the Elderly and the Institution for the Blind in Bourj Hammoud

26 December 2015. On Saturday His Holiness Aram I continued his visit to the social institutions sponsored by the Catholicosate of Cilicia, accompanied by Bishop Shahé Panossian, the Prelate of Lebanon, and priests of the brotherhood.

They first went to the Home for the Elderly and then to the Blind School, in Bourj Hammoud, the Armenian neighbourhood northeast of Beirut. In both places he met with the staff and received their reports. At the home for the elderly, they attended a special programme of poetry, songs and a short play prepared for them. At the school for the blind, the Catholicos attended a cultural programme organized by the residents and visited the workshop to see their projects.

After the priests presented their programme of prayerful hymns and traditional Armenian songs and distributed gifts, His Holiness Aram I blessed everyone, thanked the staff and assured both the elderly and the blind that under no circumstance would the Church stop assisting them. Noting that the Armenian Church is an enclusive community, he then appealed to the members of the Armenian community in Lebanon not to forget the residents of these institutions.

The Annual New Year’s visits of His Holiness to all Church-sponsored institutions not only empowers and assures the residents and the staff spiritually and socially, but also reminds the community of the vocation of the church to serve, in humility, the orphans, the sick, the old and the disabled members of the community.
