His Holiness visits the Papa Künzler exhibition in his native town of Hundwil

30 September 2015. On Saturday 26 October His Holiness went to Hundwil, accompanied by his delegation, comprising of Archbishop Khoren Toghramadjian, Primate of the Diocese of Greece, Very Rev. Housig Mardirossian, the Ecumenical Relations Officer, Rev Bedros Manuelian, Head of the Audiovisual Department, Mr Hagop Pakradouni, a member of the Lebanese Parliament, Mrs Teny Pirri-Simonian, President of Armenofas, and Mr Alexan Keucheyan and other members of Armenofas Board.

The mayor and the pastor of the town received His Holiness and the delegation, and led them to the church where the life and work of Jakob Künzler was carved on wooden banners with pictures of the orphans and the massacres added in between. The exhibition described Papa Künzler’s commitment and service to Armenians from the time of his arrival in Urfa to his death in 1945: his journey to Syria and Lebanon with the orphans and the widows, the orphanage in Ghazir, the school of the blind in Beirut and the Sanatorium in Azounieh. He was buried in Lebanon and the inscription on his tombstone reads, “Papa Künzler father of Armenian Orphans.”
