The Members of the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches Meet in Rome

2 February 2015. The 12th session of the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches was held 25-30 January 2015 in Rome.

 

The Armenian Church participated with a delegation of four, Archbishop Khajak Barsamian and Rev. Shahé Anananian, from the Holy See Etchmiadzin, and Archbishop Nareg Alemezian and Bishop Magar Ashkarian, from Holy See of Cilicia; Bishop   Hovaguim Manoukian attended as an observer. The meeting opened with the members of the Commission attending the closing prayers of the Week of Prayers for Christian Unity at the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls in Rome, which was led by Pope Francis.

 

On Monday, 26 January 2015, the two families met separately to discuss the agenda and talk about issues directly related to the Catholic and Oriental Orthodox Churches. The joint meeting was held 27-30 January 2015, during which they approved the completed study, “The Eucharist in the early church and its meaning today,” and started to study the new topic, “Sacraments, theology and historical developments.” The meeting ended on Friday with a private audience with Pope Francis, who welcomed the members of the Commission and sent his greetings to the six Heads of the Oriental Orthodox Churches.

 

Upon the invitation of the Coptic Orthodox Church, the 13th Session of the International Commission will be held in Cairo, 30 January to 6 February 2016, in Cairo.
