ARMENIAN SANATORIUM OF AZOUNIEHAs a non-profit establishment, the Armenian Sanatorium of Azounieh, unconditionally dispenses its health services in the Middle East, especially Lebanon, to everybody as part of the humanitarian mission of the Armenian people. It is financed through donations from the Armenian people, as well as assistance from the Armenian American Medical Philanthropic Fund of New York through the wills of various sponsors. The sanatorium is located on the Beirut-Damascus international highway, not far from Mount Lebanon. It is situated near the village of Azounieh, in an area of breathtaking scenery, 1200 meters above sea level. Its complex consists of eight major buildings. There is also a central office in Bourj-Hammoud, Beirut. Its governing and medical body consists of 70 doctors and nurses. It belongs equally to the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia and the Union of Near East Armenian Evangelical Churches. A Board of Trustees is responsible for the general organization and the regulations
of the sanatorium. The present Board of Trustees consists of the following members: Previously, the mission of the sanatorium was limited to curing only breast diseases. Nowadays, it is one of the few establishments struggling against tuberculosis. Also, now, approximately 100 ill old people are being cured in one of the departments of the main building of the sanatorium. The future plans include further development and expansion till it reaches contemporary standards of general hospital and surgery. |
