“The Politics of Ottoman Empire in Western Armenia and the Attitude of  Major Foreign Powers”, by Dr. Saleh Zahreddine. (In Arabic).

“The Confiscation of Armenian Properties by the Turkish Government Said to be Abandoned”, by Dr. Kevork Baghdjian. (In English).

Book under publication:

“Ethno.Religious Transformations of Armenian Inhabitants in the Republic of Turkey (1923-2005)”, by Garen Hrant Khanlarian. (In English).

The Publications Committee also invites new authors to present their works for publication on issues of the Armenian Genocide, the Armenian Question and Human Rights.

The awards for the school competitions for Aramenian Language and Literature, History, Religious Studies and Songs were presented on Friday 4 June 2010, in the evening at the Cilicia Museum in the presence of the school community and parents.

 

The representatives of the Jury of the four disciplines presented to the audience the criteria for selection. They appreciated the efforts of the teachers of the four disciplines in Armenian studies, and the parents for their support of the Armenian school.

 

At the end, His Holiness Aram I who was presiding over the ceremony distributed the awards to 15 boys and girls the winners, and announced the names of 13 students who received recognition. After congratulating the winners, the teachers and the parents, he said: “whole civilizations, some with strong armies, have come and gone, but we still exist. Our power lies in our alphabet that we have carried with us in the Diaspora with the determination to keep it in a highly competitive globalized world. It is with this assurance that we shall expand the Catholicosate of Cilicia, Khatchik Babikian Foundation School Competition to other dioceses in the diaspora.”

On Sunday 21 March 2010, the screening of candidates participating in the annual song contest began in the Cilicia Hall of the Museum in Antelias. The Song Contest is the third event organized by this Foundation of the Catholicosate, along with competitions for Tertiary and Secondary School students in Armenian Language and Literature, Armenian History and Religious Education.

 

35 young candidates ages 16-30 presented themselves to the Jury. Those selected will go through a second screening process. At the end of screenings of all three competitions, around 15 young adults from both sexes will receive financial awards at a special Awards Ceremony.

On Saturday 13 March 2010, sixty boys and girls from tertiary and secondary schools of the community, gathered in Yeghishé Manoukian School. The participants were students selected by a Jury nominated by the Khatchik Babikian Foundation of the Holy See of Cilicia. The purpose of this competition was to encourage students deepen their knowledge in Armenian history and Teachings of the Church.

 

The 2010 competition for Armenian Language and Literature had already taken place and their schools had selected fifty-six students. At the end of all competitions, the winners will receive their awards in a public event.

Khatchik Babikian Foundation of the Holy See of Cilicia organizes annual competitions for students in Tertiary and High Schools belonging to the community.

 

The 2010 competition for Armenian Language and Literature was recently announced, and 38 students from 18 Tertiary Schools and 22 students from 12 High Schools were selected by their schools. A Jury appointed by the Board of the Fund will screen these candidates and the Board will make the results public soon.

 

In March competitions for religious studies and history will begin. At the end of all competitions, the winners will receive their awards in a public event.

 

 

KHATCHIK BABIKIAN FUND OF THE CATHOLICOSATE OF CILICIA

ANNOUNCES ITS PRIORITIES TO FURTHER THE 2009 YEAR OF YOUTH

Khatchik Babikian, long time President of the National Assembly and Executive Council of the Catholicosate, Member of the Lebanese Parliament and well known Lawyer, had bequeathed before he died a sum to the Catholicosate asking His Holiness Aram I to create a Foundation. According to the desire of Khatchik Babikian part of the income from the funds would be used for the educational, cultural and humanitarian activities of the community in Lebanon.

 

At its recent meeting the Board announced four priority areas touching the lives of youth and inviting young students to contribute through essay contests on: Religious and ethical issues; research on Armenian history; Armenian language and literature. The fourth priority ‘Armenian song’ is open to all young people ages 16-30. The Board has also nominated a committee to supervise the work in each of these areas.

 

The four priorities of Khatchik Babikian Fund will enhance the work of the Catholicosate that began with the announcement of 2009 the “Year of Youth.”

 

 

 

 

PRESS RELEASE

 

The Khatchig Babikian Publishing Fund continues its regular meetings presided over by His Holiness Aram I and is in continuous consultation with its members outside of Lebanon.

 

The Committee has already received a number of submissions in the fields of the evolution of Armenian political thought and the progress of the Armenian Cause.

 

In its most recent meeting, the Committee decided to publish Garen Khanlarian’s “The Ethno-religious Reformulation of the Armenian Population in the Turkish Republic- 1923-2005”. The study is currently under print.

 

We would like to remind the public that research studies, writings and student theses on the topics of the Armenian Cause, Armenian rights and generally the evolution of Armenian political thought would be welcomed for consideration by the Fund’s Committee.

 

The Committee includes the following members: Yervant Pamboukian (Lebanon), Shahan Kandaharian (Lebanon), Giro Manoyan (Armenia), Haig Oshagan (Eastern United States) and Garo Momdjian (Western United States).
