Maundy Thursday at the Holy See of Cilicia

“LET THE MESSAGE OF THE LOVE OF JESUS CHRIST BECOME THE AXIS OF OUR LIVES”

SAID CATHOLICOS ARAM I

On Maundy Thursday a large number of Armenians assisted the morning service, the service of Repentance, and the Holy Liturgy that followed at St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral in Antelias, over which His Holiness Aram I presided.

In the afternoon, during the washing of the feet prayer service, His Holiness Aram I washed the feet of 12 priests and deacons. In his sermon he said, “because God is love, Christian love is the essence of Christian faith.” “

God sent His only Son,” said His Holiness, “because of His love for humanity. By washing the feet of his disciples, Jesus taught us that God’s love is expressed through humility.” The Catholicos then added, “By washing and drying the feet of the disciples, God took back human sin and gave back Salvation.”

Maundy Thursday prayers ended with the evening service of “Lamentations,” at which the Passion of Jesus is recalled. Rev. Torkom Donoyan preached on the theme of Salvation, and His Holiness Aram I ended the service with a blessing while holding the relic of the Cross.
