Six Priests are promoted to the rank of Very Reverend

22 May 2013. On Sunday during the Holy Liturgy at St Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral, three priests, Rev. Anania Koujanian, Parish of Shahin Shahr (Iran), Rev. Mesrob Sarkissian, Pontifical Legate of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, and Rev Torkom Donoyan, Dean of the Seminary, were promoted to the rank of Very Reverend.

 

After Bishop Shahé Panossian, Prelate of the Diocese of Lebanon, announced their promotion, the three candidates each spoke on the mission, vocation and theological formation of the Catholicosate of Cilicia, after which, the celebrant.

 

Priests are promoted to the rank of Very Reverend after completing a thesis and defending it in front of a panel headed by the Catholicos and in the presence of the members of the brotherhood. Two members of the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople, Very Rev Tatoul Anoushian and Deacon Vagharshak Seropian, also attended the defence as guests.

 

The study topics were elaborations of themes drawn from the archives of the Catholicosate. Following the successful defence, His Holiness received the candidates and the delegations accompanying them in his office. He congratulated the priests and explained the implications of their new rank.

 

Three other priests , Keghart Kusbekian, Sahak Yemishian, and Gehevont Pentezian, were also promoted in their respective churches in the United States of American and Canada.
