The Crisis in the Middle East and Diakonia: Consultation Organized by the World Council of Churches (WCC)

28 February. From the 24th to the 26th of February, a consultation was held at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva to discuss the response of the Ecumenical movement in 2016 to the crisis in the Middle East. Very Rev Fr. Housig Mardirossian represented the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia and the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC).

Ā

Within the larger framework of planning, the consultation discussed two training workshops that are being planned on diakonia and service. These workshops will also consider how the WCC, the MECC, other ecumenical organizations, and local churches might best work together to deal with the issues of refugees, migrants and marginalized people.

Ā

After revisiting the theological reflections on diakonia by the ecumenical movement, the consultation considered how the WCC and the churches might contribute to the wider reflection and action process related to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
