The distribution of the Awards of Khatchik Babikian School competition and The Graduation of the students of Western Armenian Language Crash Course

We must assume collective responsibility and safeguard our Armenian language and values

Said Catholicos Aram I

21 June 2015. On Sunday a special ceremony for the distribution of awards and certificates was held under the auspices of His Holiness Aram I. The Main Hall of the Catholicossate was packed with the clergy, members of Khatick Babikian family, headmasters, teachers and students of Armenian schools, parents and others supportive of strengthening teaching of Armenian language.

The director of Armenian Studies Department of the Catholicosate of Cilicia Mr Sarkis Guiragossian welcomed the people and the symbolism of the event on the 100th anniversary of the commemoration of the Genocide because it defies Turkey’s effort to annihilate the nation and its language. He then informed that 132 students had participated from 19 Tertiary and 13 Secondary Armenian Schools. 20 boys and girls had won awards and 27 earned mention. Guiragossian then introduced the curriculum of the one-year new crash course on Armenian language.

His Holiness Aram I distributed the awards and the certificates and addressed the winners and graduates and the audience. The Catholicos said that not allowing the gradual weakening of Armenian language, spiritual and cultural values is a collective responsibility. The Catholicosate of Cilicia is taking special measures to prevent the process. Strong Armenian schools and institutions are essential in safeguarding the language, the culture and values both in Lebanon and the diaspora. He then invited Armenians in Lebanon, which has strong institutions to assume responsibility and help the diaspora communities organize themselves. The Catholicos congratulated the students and then thanked everyone for their contribution towards the success of the event.
