His Holiness Aram I Arrives in Detroit

            On 20 May, His Holiness Aram I and his delegation began a four-day pastoral visit to Detroit. He was received at St Sarkis Church by Rev Hrank Kevorkian, accompanied by President Steven Hagopian and members of the Church Council.

 

            Prior to the canonical prayer service, in a gesture of historical memory, he was offered flowers. Archbishop Oshagan Choloyan explained that the flowers were being offered by a woman in memory of her grandmother who offered a bouquet of flowers to Catholicos Sahak 112 years ago when he had visited the Armenian Church in Ayntab. The Archbishop then invited the Catholicos to give his message. Aram I spoke on the biblical verse, “If anyone will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me“(Luke 9:23). Commenting on the verse, he said that the Church, as the people of God, deepens our faith and shows us how to serve God by living Jesus’s words.
